this was probably his first time doing kitchen work, and it shows in the amount of cuts he already gave himself trying to slice the ingredients for the soup into more manageable pieces.
his fingers were full of bandages and blood already dried up on places uther had forgotten to wipe. it only has been vegetables that have been prepared and uther already was having problems he was too proud to admit. physical pain was negligible, but knowing that he can't accomplish the simple task of preparing the soup without hurting himself was something else.
uther wanted to cry since no one else was in the kitchen besides him, but he needed to be strong.
eyes would keep watching the door almost every minute, silently hoping that someone else will arrive and save him from the predicament he was in. help was to arrive soon. they were late and forced him to do things on his own, which most likely jeopardizes the volunteer work.
as though his wish had been granted, the doors abruptly opened, and in entered his savior. except, elysia was far from help. an utter disaster in the kitchen, her dishes turned out either really well, or really bad. there was no in between. she had a horrible habit of deviating from the recipe to even eating her things halfway through. ingredients often went missing, and there were plenty of times the oven was set ablaze because she took a nap at the wrong time. still, having once lived the 'poor' life herself, burned and horrible food was better than no food, right? this was the one place where her cooking skills couldn't be complained about as long as she didn't chop off her own finger and drop it in the pot or something.
the woman quirked a brow at the man's hands - he looked so...awkward holding a knife. and were those bandages everywhere? geez, this was kinda sad. "sure you didn't lose enough blood?" her taunting words were followed by her abruptly snatching a knife from him as she twirled it within her fingers, showing off just a bit. it wasn't like he knew that she was an utter terror in the kitchen...might as well lead him along a bit and get some well deserved appreciation, yeah? "do me a favor and find me something nice to snack on. break a wire, hand me a power cord - even a regular battery will work." she motioned him off like one would a servant as she began to rather skillfully chop up the remaining vegetables. she did know how to handle sharp objects, surprisingly enough.
the smile couldn't be denied in his face when he saw her enter the room. he attempted not to exaggerate his joy upon finding backup, but to no avail.
"don't mind the blood," he'd reassure her, oblivious of her intonation. uther sounded enthusiastic even. "i'm okay."
his eyes were bright with hope as she took over. the way she handled the knife meant that she was at least better at handling kitchen tools. the only blades that graced his hands were swords and weapons. kitchen knives used for peeling and cutting were outside of his expertise.
he appeared to be in a trance as he watched her do her thing. the only thing that got him out was the next few words that would be instructed to him. the smile remained, and so did uther in his position. perplexed and in a state of shock, he'd ask for a clarification.
"wh-what? why?" he'd question her.
the inquiry about the blood was ignored from the absurdity of her previous question.
he was spirited. that was always a plus. most people gave up on cooking after the first few cuts. it was nice to know he wouldn't bail out on her once he realized she had little idea of what the hell she was actually doing. from out her pocket, she took out a piece of paper that had the recipe jotted down on it. except, for some odd reason, she opted to draw the recipe out instead of write it....unfortunately for her, her drawing could make a two year old feel like an artist. eyes narrowing as she glanced down at the incomprehensible paper as she began to feel the slight pressure of realizing she had no idea what to do next, she idly shuffled the paper aside, clearing her throat with a little huff. it was just soup. it couldn't be that hard. screw needing a recipe, they could do this perfectly fine.
"first rule in chief elysia's kitchen - you don't ask questions." she huffed out, "hurry up, go find me something electrical. anything will do just - a literal battery is all i'm asking for." at this point, she almost sounded as though she were whining. turning her attention away from him, she instead focused on the vegetables which were finely chopped and diced.
...so...what was next?
"and go find me a pot." yes. a pot. because soup was always given out in those really large ones, right? "a reaalllyyy big one. bigger than your head."
she's weird, but the amount of people that gave him that expression was too numerous that he wonders if weird is the norm. he doesn't question though, cause that's what she said, and uther was nice enough to follow her instructions.
at least they'll go somewhere with her in the kitchen. he was hopeless alone.
"o-okay!"
he starts to follow the energy source of the kitchen appliances before finding the lacrima running the entire kitchen. he'd take out the main source, after which lights were turned off. he ponders on his decision, but decides to ignore his doubts for now.
"here ya go!"
he gives elysia the lacrima and a pot that he managed to locate in no time.
smile growing wider at the sight of both things, the slayer grabbed them both. she set the pot down whilst she brought the lacrima to her mouth, lips pursing as the electricity that it sparked with was seemingly 'sucked' up. "see, now i can think straight. i was starving," the woman let out a loud, content sigh. setting the now useless, dull lacrima down, she turned towards the pot. for several seconds, elysia simply stared at it as she tried to figure out what exactly...she was supposed to do. eventually, the gears started turning in her mind as she set the large pot on the stove. after fiddling with - and nearly breaking - the buttons, the 'heat' lacrima embedded within said stove was activated.
"alright kid, nows the fun part." a wide grin quickly found its way spreading across her lips. "grab as much crap as you can find...and dump it in! that's how the best soup is made!" she was positive that wasn't how it worked but, there was no way she was admitting to not knowing what to do. "you see those wyvern scale shavings over there? dump it in! that glass of turducken broth? drop the whole thing in! make a mess! have some fun-...er..." she coughed slightly. "be a creative cook!"
he stares at the lacrima she has drained somehow. his worries were not on the fact that she somehow found sustenance on the magic-generating object, but more about how the place will run without it. lights in the place were now turned off, but at least natural light filtered nicely throughout the place.
he snaps back to reality once she spoke to him once more.
her words worry him. he does not know how to make proper food in the kitchen, but he knows how not to make one. what she was ordering him to do was something not one would expect in a kitchen. he's read books before he went to do this thing, and there was nothing that mentioned that.
"will this even taste right?"
although he questions her, he does what he tells her to do. various ingredients went into the pot without second thought. as long as they're edible, uther reluctantly adds them into the mixture.
